PRIVACY POLICY
Palm Springs, USA
While formal privacy laws generally do not apply to this noncommercial site, I aim to meet established data privacy standards regardless. You can read the full privacy policy below. Enjoy!
This is a personal website run by Adam Wand ("I", "me", "my"). It is not a business. This page explains what happens to any information collected when you visit or contact me. If you have any questions, you can reach me using the Contact Form.
What I collect
If you use the contact form. Your name, your email address, and whatever you write in the message. That's it — I don't ask for anything else and you don't need to give me anything you'd rather not.
Automatically, when you visit. my hosting provider, Wix, keeps standard server logs. These typically include your IP address, browser type, the pages you looked at, and the date and time. I don't use these logs to identify anyone; they exist for security and to keep the site running.
I don't use analytics, advertising trackers, or social media pixels on this site.
Cookies
This site sets no tracking or advertising cookies.
Why I collect it, and on what basis
I use your contact form submission for one purpose only: to read your message and reply to it. Under the GDPR, my legal basis is legitimate interest — namely, being able to respond to someone who has deliberately chosen to write to me. Server logs are kept on the same basis, for security and site reliability. I will not add you to a mailing list, and I will not use your message for anything unrelated to answering it.
Who else sees it
Only the services that make the site work, namely, Wix (hosting and server logs; processes and delivers contact form submissions) and Google Workspace (where your message lands once it reaches me).
I don't sell personal information, I don't share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and I don't disclose it to anyone else except where I'm legally required to.
Where it goes
This site and the services above are hosted in the United States. If you're writing from Australia, Europe, the UK, or anywhere else, your message will be transferred to and stored in that country. For transfers out of Europe or the UK, the providers listed above rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.
How long I keep it
Contact form messages: kept while I'm dealing with them, and deleted within 24-months or sooner unless we're still corresponding or I need to keep them for a legal reason.
Server logs: retained according to my host's default schedule, typically 30 days.
Your rights
If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK, you have the right to ask me to give you a copy of any personal data I hold about you, correct anything inaccurate, delete it, restrict how I use it, object to my using it, or receive it in a portable format. You can also lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority — in the UK, that's the Information Commissioner's Office.
If you are in California, you have the right to know what personal information has been collected about you and why, to request its deletion, to request correction of inaccurate information, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. As above, I don't sell or share personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of. I will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.
If you are in Australia or New Zealand, you can ask me for a copy of any personal information I hold about you and ask me to correct anything that's wrong. This site is run by an individual for personal purposes rather than as a business, so I don't believe Australia's Privacy Act 1988 or New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 applies to it — but I'll handle any request as though they did. If you're unhappy with how I've dealt with something, you can raise it with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or, in New Zealand, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Wherever you are, the practical answer is the same: email me via the site's Contact Form and I'll action it. There's no charge, and I'll respond within 30 days. I may need to ask a question or two to confirm you're the person the data relates to.
Security
I take reasonable steps to keep what I hold secure, but no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. Please don't send anything sensitive through the contact form.
Changes
If I change this policy, I'll update the date at the top. Any material change will be noted on this page.
